'Eastern type' Jackdaw?

I have two birds in my garden in Llandudno Junction, with a typical 'British' bird. The first arrived yesterday, joined by a second this morning. Any thoughts? One shows a full whitish collar but it is difficult to photograph when it turns the other way. They look slightly bulkier than the 'british' bird but it could just be a runt.

  1. Interesting timing Rob! Cold weather both here and on the continent, snow, and especially, a strong easterly airflow for the last week or more..
If i understand correctly, "northern"/continental Jackdaws often move quite large distances. Wonder if they have visibly longer primaries?

  3. Hi Mike, I will take a look when they come back again. I will send you an email in a mo showing what I noticed to be a significant difference in bill depths/lengths between the two types of Jackdaw in the garden. If anyone else is interested I will send more post more pictures later.
